This weekend, I came into an amazing set of vintage rings (and 1 necklace) from a local estate sale. The lady told me that they were her grandmother's, and that she started collecting jewelry in the 1920's. I bought it all! Of the 6 pieces, all are sterling silver, and three are signed CW 925 (and one of those also has ITALY stamped on it). My initial online research points me in the direction of Charles Winston, who used the CW mark in the 70s - 80s, but he's an American jewelry designer (so why is one stamped Italy?) and these piece look much older than that (to me). Opinions? I'd love to hear any suggestions you have!

'love' wedding band. The UC mark is a very script style writing with the U above the C -- almost looks like a fancy 4.

Oh my gosh, that faux sapphire ring you have matches a vintage pair of earrings from my grandmother that I have. The earrings look EXACTLY the same, stamped with a "CW" 925 on both the earrings and the earring backs - just an opal stone instead! I have been trying to find info on them forever! Have you found anymore info?
ReplyDeleteGenerally the CW 925 is a jewelry marking that stands for CW (Sterling Silver) & 925 stands for 92.5% silver. The Italy stamp is generally on the flat connector if a chain by the clasp & if pendant or earring is slightly off center. Hope this helps.
DeleteI suppose it helps. I was given a very pretty ring by a friend. Been trying to find an approximate ring of style, to no avail. I needed a guesstimate because I was gonna try and sell it to my cousin. She loves it way more than I. But, hey, thanks for at least that much.

ReplyDeleteDue to the Industrial Revolution, many jewelry designers rebelled during the Arts and Crafts movement, returning to intricate jewelry designs and handmade craftsmanship. It was common for jewelry of this era to be simple in pattern, made of colorful, uncut stones.

antique jewelry phoenix jewelry will retain its beauty for years, if you care for it properly. Before you purchase the ring, have the jeweler inspect the prongs carefully to be sure the stone won’t come loose. You don’t want to lose your diamond. Take the ring to the jeweler for professional cleaning and inspection once or twice a year.
ReplyDeleteIt feels so nice to find somebody with some original thoughts on this subject. I am really thankful to you for starting this.

ReplyDeleteThe Marsala Mark Looks Like CW When Upside Down. I have the same thing and it isn't CW. Also, Masala used a lot of marcasite (iron pyrite), especially in their antique style designs from the 1980s and 1990s. I found all these at this website
